Dubai gold rate per gram and what jewellery costs
As of 2 September 2026 the published Dubai rate for 24K gold is AED 519.25 a gram. The same list carries four more purities on the same day: AED 480.75 for 22K, AED 461.00 for 21K, AED 395.25 for 18K and AED 308.25 for 14K. Those five numbers are the entire basis of a jewellery purchase here, because every shop quote is built the same way: the gram rate for the karat you chose, multiplied by the weight of the piece, plus a making charge on top.
The rate is the part you can look up. The weight is the part the shop scale settles in front of you. The making charge is the part that is negotiable, and it is the only part. Most disappointing purchases in the Gold Souk come from mixing all three into a single number and calling it the price of gold.
What each purity costs by weight

Read the table across and you get the cost of a piece. A chain weighing 10 grams in 22K holds AED 4,807.50 of metal. The identical 10 grams in 18K holds AED 3,952.50, which is AED 855.00 less. That gap is not a bargain, it is less gold: 22K is 91.7 percent gold and 18K is 75.0 percent.
Read the table down and you see why "what is the rate today" cannot be answered until you name the karat. Between 24K and 14K the gram rate falls by AED 211.00, so on a 10 gram piece the metal alone differs by AED 2,110.00. Two shops quoting different totals for pieces of the same weight may both be honest and simply be selling different metal.
Turning a shop quote back into numbers
The method that works takes four steps and about a minute. First, name the karat and hold the seller to it. Second, take the gram rate for that karat from the table above. Third, ask for the weight on the scale, in grams, before any total is mentioned. Fourth, multiply the two yourself. Whatever is left between your figure and the quoted total is the making charge, in dirhams, and now you can compare it with the shop next door.
A worked pass through it: a ring of 5 grams in 21K carries AED 2,305.00 of metal. A bangle of 3 grams in 22K carries AED 1,442.25. A 10 gram 24K piece carries AED 5,192.50. Those are floors, not prices. No finished piece is sold at the metal value, and any total below it should end the conversation rather than start it.
We do not publish a making charge on this page, and that is deliberate. Our source is a metal price list; it contains no workmanship figure, and a single percentage quoted for the whole city would be invented. Ask for the charge as its own number in dirhams. A shop that will only give you a total is quoting two things at once and hoping you check neither.

The pattern is worth holding on to: the same money buys about 1.68 times as many grams in 14K as in 24K, and the pieces will look similar in the case. Weight and purity together decide what you are carrying home, and only one of the two is printed on the tag.
